‘Giallo’ is Italian for ‘yellow’, the color of the lurid pulp novels that inspired one of the most intense, extreme and influential genres in movie history. In this unprecedented collection, experience the full chronological evolution of giallo with more than 100 rare and classic trailers from such masters as Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Sergio Martino, Antonio Margheriti, Umberto Lenzi and many more. Then slip on black leather gloves and set the mood with a Bonus CD of legendary soundtrack music from composers that include Ennio Morricone, Riz Ortolani, Bruno Nicolai, Stelvio Cipriani, and others, along with all-new featurettes that thrust even deeper into the genre.

I’m always a big fan of horror documentaries so I was pretty excited when I heard Severin was releasing a documentary about Giallo films. I do want to point out ahead of time that Giallo is an Italian thing and as a result everyone being interviewed here is Italian and as a result, you’ll be reading subtitles from start to finish. I don’t have a problem with that, but I can see where some might. Anyway, we have the complete history of the Giallo film here as we see the novel roots into the greats like Bava, Argento, and Fulci. Making this one even better is we deep dive into director’s Giallo history and then go and see other one-off movies of note as well. We even have interviews with greats like Dario Argento here to help tell the story. You see where it started, you see how it influenced the American slasher and it all comes together with much more to make the ultimate Giallo documentary that I’m sure even people who aren’t keen on the sub-genre will still enjoy. You also get audio commentary on this by with Kat Ellinger, Author of All The Colors Of Sergio Martino. And this great documentary is just the first awesome thing on this disc. You also get four hours of Giallo trailers.

On Disc 2 we have a DVD with another collection of movie trailers. This time is in the form of the Krimi films. Which were the German answer to the Italian Giallo. This opens up a whole new group of films that Giallo fans might want to check out if they are feeling as if they’ve seen everything there is to see. That’s one of the main reason I dig trailer releases because I always see stuff I want to track down and watch later, that is no different here. Topping off this awesome release is a third disc that is a CD made-up of The Strange Sounds Of The Bloodstained Films: Compiled By Alfonso Carillo. I don’t see how anyone could get this set and not have a blast with it.
