After a deadly viral outbreak, an elite squad of special forces soldiers must infiltrate a quarantine zone to rescue a scientist who holds the only cure to save mankind. In a last attempt to contain the mutated virus, they launch a final strike against the infected, risking all of humanity in the process.
Redcon-1 is another take on the whole zombie/infected genre and it once again uses a military unit as the base of the movie as they go through a lot to try to find a cure. The group is dysfunctional, the movie packs lots of blood and gore, but above all else, it probably adds just enough new stuff and twists and turns along the way to keep things interesting. It becomes what basically boils down to a suicide mission with lots of in-fighting, other humans trying to kill them, and lots and lots of infected people becoming the issues that this group must face. Honestly, the blood got my attention but the stuff that goes on in the actual plot is what kept me watching and I thought it was not only pretty darn good but better than I’m sure most might expect. The blood and gore never hurt either as it starts to spill out of people at some points to the levels of old Japanese samurai movies. That’s only a good thing as well.
In the heart of the matter, we mainly have a platoon leader who makes it his mission to keep a little girl safe and sound in all the danger that they face and the heart of that matter is probably the best part of the film. If the film had one negative about it and its one that I can’t get into too much and not spoil things a bit, but we have things that take place in the very last part of the movie that some might seem to find a little much or far fetched, but outside of that this one is a very solid and blood-soaked take on a subject that some might find tired, but still manages to have some legs to stand on here.
