Almost four decades after he drew first blood, Sylvester Stallone is back as one of the greatest action heroes of all time, John Rambo. Now, Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. A deadly journey of vengeance, Rambo: Last Blood marks the last chapter of the legendary series.

I was starting to think we’d never see another Rambo movie but here we are with “Last Blood”. A movie that even I admit doesn’t always feel like a Rambo movie. I’m not sure why that is the case for me. I think a good deal of it might have to do with something as simple as he doesn’t have his long hair this time around. And I know this is a movie that a lot of people seemed to dislike but I didn’t mind it for the MOST part. But even I will admit some stuff doesn’t flow and I don’t like a few of the key plot directions and details. There’s just some stuff here that doesn’t feel very Rambo-ish and I don’t want to blame the time because they didn’t have trouble before with the last Rambo movie making the character fit into the current time. None the less, it doesn’t always feel like a product of the source material but it’s at least something adding to the lore none the less.

And if you came for violence that is again where this one will hit you in your sweet spot. You want to see the bad guys die in horrible ways and that’s where this one delivers more the less. The last half of this movie gets very bloody and a bit creative. It’s almost Home Alone meets Rambo as Rambo lures in the Mexican cartel to his home that is rigged up for destruction. Some deaths are quick, some are pretty gruesome, but I’d at least call this part of Last Blood the most satisfying. I don’t think there’s nothing pretty about what Rambo brings to the table this time around outside the fact the movie looks good in 4K. Other than that we have a very mean spirited blood bath that might not be what you expected but delivers on people coming in for violence regardless.
